History 12 Course Information For This Week

Hi everyone,

I hope all is well.  I have already received quite a few inquiries about the term project.  Thanks to those of you who have reached out! A reminder to everyone to please get in touch with me asap.

I am going to provide you with quite a bit of lesson material for this week.  This content will help you to start thinking about assessing the level of international cooperation that existed during the early days of the Cold War.

Remember to always keep in mind the main question: To what extent has the international community effectively cooperated after the Second World War?

Things to do:

*Go to the History 12 Handouts tab located at the side of my website and go over the following:

A.  Cold Overview 1945-70 Power Point
B.  Berlin Handout
C.  Berlin P.P.
D.  Korea Handout
E.   Korea P.P.

*Go to History 12 Videos tab located at the right side of my website and watch these videos.  Please note that they are located approximately half way down the list

A.  Cold War Crash Course
B.  The Berlin Wall
C.  Korea War for dummies

Now, here is your assignment which will be due Thursday April 23 .  You have one week to do this so it shouldn't be too difficult.

You have 3 tasks: (5 marks each)

1. For each video you should complete a New/Interesting Chart

New
Interesting

2.  Cold War Terms -  This handout is also located under the History 12 Handout tab

3.  Answer the following short answers (1/2 page each)

a.  Q. Why did the city of Berlin become the symbol of the Cold War?

b.  America claimed support of South Korea was based on "Collective Security".  This refers to the United Nations principle of common action against an aggressor.  Critics of American involvement in the Korea War suggest that the United States intervened in Korea because of the policy of "containment", which was fuelled by distrust and fear of communism.

     Q.  To what extent was American involvement in the Korean War based on self interest?

Remember you are always welcome to get in touch with me via email.  I will get back to you as soon as I can.

  1. I can't get The Berlin Wall video to work. Is there another video I can see to do the chart?
