Genocide Studies Lesson information for this week

Hi everyone,

We are going to continue looking at the Nuremberg trials - and the attempts made to seek justice for the victims and survivors of the the Holocaust - remember the term genocide had not been invented yet.

Here is the lesson information you will need for this week.  Please note that you will have to do 3 things:

1. Readings and questions
2. Videos and questions
3. Written response on what justice should look like after World War 2

All work will be due via email by Wednesday April 22

1.
Complete the following readings and accompanying questions:

a. The First Nuremberg Trials
b. Betraying the Youth
c. Business Leaders on Trial
d. Following Orders
e. The Possibilities and Limits of Forgiveness
f. Last chance for justice

2.
Watch "Monsters and Men" video and complete a New/ Interesting chart
Watch "Einsatgruppen on Trial" and complete a S.I.T. chart

3.
Written response.  (20 marks)

This will be an essay ( minimum 3-5 body paragraphs) on post war justice.

Preamble: Justice is often located somewhere in between vengeance and forgiveness
Question: To what extent was justice served after World war 2?

You can make reference to the following:
-Victims, survivors, perpetrators, and bystanders
- Nazi leaders
- Those "following orders"
- Industrialists who profited from the war
- Military leaders not closely linked to the Nazi regime
- Nazi imagery post war
- Education
- Escaped Nazi criminals
- Other?
