Genocide Studies information for this week

Good morning everyone.  This week we will study Raphael Lemkin - the man who coined the word genocide - A crime that did not technically exist at the time.  We will also explore the notion of intervening in another countries domestic affairs.

You may notice that I have added hyperlinks to this page.  I hope this helps to streamline lesson information.  All handouts and videos are also located under the Genocide tabs

Read Sovereignty cannot be conceived as a right to kill millions

I am going to give you two scenarios that relate to national sovereignty versus foreign intervention. You must pick a side and explain your decision

Slavery:  Should the international community intervene is a nation is using people as slaves, or does a nation have the right to decide policies regarding slavery?

Terrorism:  Should the international community intervene if a nation is harboring terrorists or do nations have the right to decide how to handle terrorists?

4. Answer the following: Under what circumstances should nations intervene in the affairs of another nation?  Under what circumstances should a nation lose its sovereignty?

Due date Wednesday May 6th
